What is Laser Hair Removal?

The Candela GentleMax Pro is a trusted, state-of-the-art laser system designed to deliver safe, effective, and long-lasting hair removal for all skin types.

Using a powerful combination of two laser wavelengths, it targets unwanted hair while keeping your comfort a top priority.

Its built-in cooling technology ensures treatments are gentle on the skin, making the experience much more comfortable.

Backed by scientific research and trusted by professionals worldwide, the GentleMax Pro offers personalised treatments with visible, lasting results – all with minimal discomfort and recovery time.

The GentleMax Pro is considered the gold standard for laser hair removal, delivering fast, effective, and comfortable treatments. Thanks to powerful Alexandrite and Nd:YAG wavelengths, even finer or coarser hairs can be targeted with ease. Treatments are quick, comfortable, and backed by real, lasting results. Plus, the built-in cooling system helps protect your skin and makes each session feel much more comfortable.

For temporary / non permanent hair removal solutions, I offer facial and body waxing.

Laser Hair Removal Vs Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment

The key difference between laser hair removal and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is the type of light. IPL is a broadband-pulsed light source, whereas laser is a monochromatic, coherent light source.

IPL technology is technically, not a laser treatment. It uses a broad spectrum of light with many wavelengths, which leads to unfocused energy around the hair and skin area. As a result, there's lots of energy wasted and a less-selective absorption in the hair follicle, resulting in less effective destruction of the hair.

Using broadband light also increases the potential for side effects, such as burns or pigmentation, particularly if integrated cooling is not used. IPL's are typically only suitable for lighter skin types (1 to 3 on the Fitzpatrick scale) for the most part.

Typically, IPL technology will require more regular and long-term treatments for hair reduction, laser hair removal will work more effectively with less patient discomfort, while treating more skin and hair types than the IPL.

Unlike IPL, our Candela GentleMax Pro Laser Hair Removal can achieve a permanent reduction and works safely and effectively with ALL skin types and hair types (apart from white and grey hair, as this contains no melanin).

Laser Hair Removal:  Frequently Asked Questions

Does it hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation as a quick, mild flick of heat, and thanks to Candela’s built-in cooling technology, treatments are far more comfortable than traditional laser systems.

How many treatments are required?

For most people (unless there is a hormone imbalance) 6 to 10 treatments is sufficient to permanently remove all hairs in that area. For facial hair, the number of sessions is likely to be more, with an average of 8-10 sessions. After the first treatment most people will get a significant reduction in hair density.

Can I treat all skin types?

Yes - Candela’s dual-wavelength technology (Alexandrite for lighter skins and Nd:YAG for deeper tones) means we can safely and effectively treat all skin types. The system allows us to tailor each setting to your unique skin and hair combination, ensuring powerful results while protecting the surrounding tissue.

Can I treat white hair?

No, as the laser process relies on a pigment to absorb light energy and convert it into heat energy, white hair has no colour pigment. If only a few in one area, electrolysis will work for you.

What is the process of getting booked in?

Before we undertake laser hair removal treatment, we always invite you to an initial consultation free of charge. The purpose of the consultation is to ask you a few questions about your health and lifestyle so that we can make sure that laser hair removal is suitable. A thorough consultation is performed for all our clients, this includes history of previous treatments, current medication, allergies, and any pigmentary problems.

We then undertake a patch test on a small area of skin in order to make sure that your skin doesn’t have any adverse effects to our laser technology. If the patch test is successful, we can then book you in for your laser hair removal treatment at a date and time of your suiting 48 hours later. Please make sure to shave prior to your patch test and the treated are 48 before your appointment.

What’s the difference between Hollywood, bikini, and Brazilian laser hair removal?
  • Hollywood – this is everything off, everywhere, both front and back including bottom beard but not buttocks.

  • Brazilian – same as a Hollywood, except for a strip on the pubis.

  • Traditional Bikini – this removes hair up to your bikini line, so upper and inner thighs included.

  • Skimpy Bikini – further in then a traditional, as well as the hair between the cheeks and the bottom area

When do I return for each Laser session?

Regrowth times vary with th Upper body, hair may return in 4–6 weeks but the Lower body might not come back for 2–3 months and so your sessions will need to be staggered appropriately to be the most effective.

Can I use a sunbed after laser hair removal?

Have your last sunbed session a minimum of 14 days before your first laser session. Your skin may not be able to recover as easily from the treatment as you are causing extra trauma to the skin which has to heal. If using sunbeds is a regular part of your life you may find it hard being told that you should avoid them for a while.

How long you sit on the side-lines is different for everyone. It depends where you have been treated and your skin type, tone and hair. Make sure you look after your skin post-laser; it will heal quicker. Also use a good quality SPF. Have a good skin routine to keep your skin healthy and supple. This will help you get back on the sunbeds faster.

What are the side effects of laser hair removal?

The most common side effects of laser hair removal are:

  • Skin irritation.

  • Temporary discomfort

  • Redness

  • Swelling

  • Pigment changes (laser hair removal might darken or lighten the affected skin, usually temporarily)

If you are concerned about any of these potential side effects please speak to your medical practitioner. That is why we always perform a patch test at least 48 hours before starting any treatment.
